Kirsty:Hey, Rach, what’s got you bouncing off the walls?
Rachel:Oh, just that I’ve got an excellent weekend planned.
Kirsty:Oh yeah? What are you doing?
Rachel:Remember Toby?
Kirsty:Toby? The guy I went to university with?
Rachel:Yeah, the guy who works in my office now! Now there’s someone after my own heart. Anyway, we’re going on a date this afternoon.
Kirsty:Isn’t he a bit… boring?
Rachel:Not at all! He’s great.
Kirsty:I don’t know… He doesn’t seem like the type to make you weak at the knees.
Rachel:He loves cats! I love cats! What more could I ask for?
Kirsty:OK, then. Whatever floats your boat…
Rachel:I just know that we’ll have a great time.

Kirsty:ねえ、お姉ちゃん、なんか興奮してるみたいだけど、どうしたの？
Rachel:えっ、ちょっと週末の予定が楽しみなの。
Kirsty:へえ、そうなんだ？何するつもり？
Rachel:Tobyって覚えてる？
Kirsty:Toby？私が一緒に大学に通ってたあの人？
Rachel:そう、今うちのオフィスで働いてるのよ。すごく気が会う人がやっと見つかった感じよ。今日の午後はデートなの。
Kirsty:あの人って、ちょっと… 退屈じゃない？
Rachel:そんなことぜんぜんないわよ！すごくいい人よ。
Kirsty:そうかな… お姉ちゃんのことをメロメロにさせるようなタイプじゃないと思うんだけど。
Rachel:あの人ネコが大好きなのよ！私もネコが大好き！それ以上何が必要だって言うの？
Kirsty:わかったわ、それなら。好きにしてよ…
Rachel:きっとすごく楽しく過ごせるはずよ、私たち。

キーフレーズ

“(be) bouncing off the walls”　とても興奮している

人がじっとしていられないぐらい非常に興奮している様子を言い表すフレーズです。

例）Andyと友人のFrancesが週末の予定について話しています。
Andy:You’re going to that new theme park this weekend, right? Are you excited?
Frances:I’m bouncing off the walls. I can’t wait to go!!
Andy:週末新しくできた遊園地に行くんだろ？楽しみ？
Frances:楽しみでうずうずしてるわ。もう待ちきれないわ！

“after (one’s) own heart”　好みの人である

性格や考え方や興味、関心などが似ていて、自分の好みに合う人物であることを言う際に使われる表現です。

例）GinaといとこのAlexisがある有名人の話をしています。
Gina:Did you hear? He just donated half of his money to charities!
Alexis:He’s a man after my own heart. I wish I could meet someone like him.
Gina:聞いた？あの人財産の半分を慈善団体に寄付したんだって！
Alexis:まさに私のタイプの男性だわ。ああいう感じの人と出会えたらいいのに。

“weak (in/at) the knees”　（膝が）へなへなになる

膝が震えて立っていられなくなるぐらい強い感情を抱いたり、圧倒的な影響を受けていることを意味するフレーズです。

例）Oliviaが最近婚約した友人のStephieと話しています
Olivia:Tell me again how he proposed!
Stephie:Oh, it was so romantic. It really made me go weak at the knees.
Olivia:どうやってプロポーズされたか、もう一度教えなさいよ！
Stephie:えっ、すごくロマンチックだったわよ。私、メロメロにされちゃったわ。

“whatever floats your boat”　どうぞお好きに

自分が望むように振る舞ってもらって構わないということを相手に伝える際に使われるフレーズです。

例）Willが友人のEleanorに自分が行く予定のイベントの話をしています。
Will:I’m so excited about next Friday. I’m going to a zombie horror event!
Eleanor:I’m not really interested in zombies but, hey, whatever floats your boat.
Will:すごく楽しみだな、今度の金曜。ゾンビとホラーのイベントに行くんだ！
Eleanor:私、ゾンビはあんまりだけど、まあ、あなたはあなたで好きにしてちょうだい。
