Jason:This is going to be so much fun!
Kirk:Yeah, I’m sure we’ll have a great time. What’s with all the CDs?
Jason:Ah, these? Yeah, I brought some music. Figured we might feel like belting out some classics on the way.
Kirk:Oh, great idea. I never get a chance to sing these days except in the car.
Jason:I forgot to get snacks, though. Do you think we can stop at the gas station and get some hotdogs?
Kirk:Woah, hotdogs? No way. If you get mustard stains on my seats, they’ll never come out!
Jason:OK, maybe not hotdogs, then. But we’ll need something to eat.
Kirk:Well, actually I was thinking we might stop for a sit-down dinner. I really want Italian.
Jason:Let’s not put the cart before the horse, shall we? We don’t really know what’s on the route.
Kirk:You’re right. I guess we’ll see what we can find. So, are you ready to go? Got everything?
Jason:Yup!
Kirk:Don’t forget to buckle up!
Kirk:Yeah, I’m sure we’ll have a great time. What’s with all the CDs?

Jason:ああ、これ？いくつか持ってきたんだよ、音楽を。道中、定番の曲とかをがんがん歌いたくなるかもしれないって思って。
Kirk:おお、いいね。最近車の中以外では歌う機会がないからな、俺。
Jason:でも、食べ物買うの忘れちゃったんだよ。途中スタンドに寄って、ホットドッグとか買えるかな？
Kirk:ちょっと待て、ホットドッグだって？あり得ない。マスタードのシミとかシートにつけたら、一生消えなくなるじゃないか！
Jason:わかったよ、じゃあホットドッグはなしだな。でも、何か食べるものはいるよ。
Kirk:どこかちゃんとテーブルで食べられるところに寄ろうかなって思ってたんだよ、実は。イタリアンが食べたいんだよ、すごく。
Jason:俺達、決める順番が違ってるんじゃない？途中に何があるかまだわからないんだし。
Kirk:それもそうだな。道中何があるか、なりゆきに任せてみよう。じゃあ、準備はいいな。忘れ物はないな？
Jason:うん。
Kirk:シートベルト締めるの、忘れるなよ！
Kirk:ああ、すごく楽しめると思うよ、きっと。そのCDは一体何だよ？

キーフレーズ
“belt (something) out” 大きな声で歌う
大きな声などで力強く自分を表現することを意味するフレーズで通常は歌を歌ったり、音楽を演奏することを意味しますが、演説などに対して使われる場合もあります。
例）クラスメートのSamanthaとKarenがカラオケの話をしています。
Samantha:I really like musical songs, but people always get bored when I pick them at karaoke.
Karen:You should go sing with Mary sometime. She loves to belt out show tunes!
Samantha:私、ミュージカルの歌がすごく好きなの。でも、カラオケで歌うといつもみんなが退屈しちゃうのよ。
Karen:たまにはMaryと行ってみたら？あの子ミュージカルの歌を思い切り歌うのが大好きなのよ。

“come out” 汚れが落ちる
汚れやシミなどが落ちることや消えてなくなることを意味する表現です。
例）HankとAmyが家で料理をするときの話をしています。
Hank:I love making fried food, but the grease stains are ruining all my clothes!
Amy:Ah, I’ve got a tip for you. If you rub some dish soap on the stains before doing laundry, they’ll come out in the washing machine.
Hank:俺、揚げ物作るの大好きなんだ。でも油でシミを作っちゃうと服がだめになっちゃうんだよね！
Amy:それなら、いいこと教えてあげるわ。洗濯する前に食器用の洗剤で少しこすり洗いするといいわ。そうしたら、洗濯機でシミが落とせるから。

“put the cart before the horse” 優先順位を間違える
物事を行う順序を間違えたり、重要なこととそうでないことを取り違えたりすることを意味するフレーズです。
例）Chloeが買ったばかりの夏物のワンピースをルームメイトのPatに見せています。
Chloe:Don’t you love it? I was thinking I could wear it when Jeremy finally asks me out on a date…
Pat:You’re already deciding what to wear? I think that’s putting the cart before the horse. You haven’t even been invited yet!
Chloe:よくない、これ？Jeremyがついに私をデートに誘ってくれるっていう日が来たら着ようと思ってて…
Pat:何着ていくか、もう決めてるの？順番違うんじゃないかしら？まだ誘われてもいないんだし！
Chloe:Don’t you love it? I was thinking I could wear it when Jeremy finally asks me out on a date…
Pat:You’re already deciding what to wear? I think that’s putting the cart before the horse. You haven’t even been invited yet!

“buckle up” シートベルトを締める
シートベルトを締める（fasten a seatbelt）ことや、一般に人やものをストラップなどで固定することを意味するカジュアルな表現です。
例）Ellenと夫のGaryはガレージにいます。2人は息子でまだ赤ん坊のLukeを連れて車でショッピングモールに出かけるところです。
Ellen:Make sure you go back in to feed the cat before we leave.
Gary:OK, let me just finish buckling up Luke in his car seat first.
Ellen:出かける前に家に戻って、ネコにエサやるの忘れないでね。
Gary: うん、でもその前にLukeにシートベルトしていいかな。
