ぴったりの仮装

＜SuzyとMarioがハロウィーンにどんな仮装をしようかと話しています。＞

Mario: Hey, Suzy. Have you picked a costume for the Halloween party?
Suzy: Yeah, I’ve decided to go as Sadako from “Ringu” this year! What do you think?
Mario: That’s a great idea! With your long black hair you’ll be the spitting image of her!
Suzy: I hope so! What are you going to dress up as?
Mario: Honestly, I’m of two minds about it. At first I thought I’d go as a vampire…
Suzy: A vampire? That’s so boring!
Mario: I know, I know. Anyway, now I’m thinking I’ll just go with the obvious.
Suzy: What’s the obvious?
Mario: You really don’t know? Super Mario, of course!
Suzy: Oh yeah, that’ll fit you to a T! I bet your brother would love to be Luigi.
Mario: I’ll ask him!
Suzy: Trust me, he’ll be there with bells on.

Mario: やあ、Suzy。ハロウィーンパーティのコスチュームはもう選んだ？
Suzy: うん、今年は「リング」の貞子に決めたわ。どう思う？
Mario: それはいいアイデアだね。君の長い黒髪なら、きっと貞子そっくりになるよ。
Suzy: うん、そう思うわ。あなたは何の格好するつもり？
Mario: 正直言うと、ちょっと決めかねてるんだよね。最初は吸血鬼かなって思ったんだけどさ…。
Suzy: 吸血鬼ですって？それじゃつまらないわ。
Mario: うん、そうだよね。まあ、そのまんまにしようかなって、今は思ってるんだ。
Suzy: そのまんまってどういうこと？
Mario: えっ、わからない？スーパーマリオだよ、もちろん。
Suzy: まあ、あなたにぴったりじゃない！きっとあなたの弟が喜んでルイージになってくれると思うわ。
Mario: 聞いてみよう。
Suzy: 絶対やるわ。喜んで来るはずよ。

キーフレーズ

“the spitting image” 　そっくりな人

人が別の人物と非常によく似ていることを強調して言うためのフレーズです。

例）Klausが兄のElijahに自分の娘を見せています。
Klaus: Look at her! Isn’t she cute?
Elijah: She’s the spitting image of you!
Klaus: この子、見てよ！すごくかわいいだろ？
Elijah: お前にそっくりじゃないか！

“be (of/in) two minds (about something)” 　～について）決めかねている

2つの選択肢のうちどちらを選ぶか迷っていたり、ある行為などをするべきかどうか決めかねているような場面で使われる表現です。

例）実家に戻ることを考えているHayleyが友人のCamilleと話しています。
Camille: Are you sure you want to move back? You hated it when you lived there!
Haley: Yeah, I’m of two minds about going back.
Camille: 本当に実家に戻っちゃうの？向こうに住んでたころはすごく嫌がってたじゃない。
Haley: そうね、戻るかどうかまだ迷ってるのよ。

“fit (someone/something) to a T”　～にぴったりである

あるのもがその人に完璧に合っていることやある行為などが非常に適切なやり方で行われることを言い表す際に使われるフレーズです。

例）Rebeccaが俳優を目指しているボーイフレンドのMarcelと話しています。
Marcel: I really like the script for this play. Do you think I should audition for it?
Rebecca: Go for it! I think the lead role would fit you to a T.
Marcel: この劇の台本がすごくいいな。オーディション受けたほうがいいかな？
Rebecca: 受けてみて！主演の役があなたにぴったりだと思うわ。

“with bells on”　喜んで

ある事柄に意欲的な態度で取り組んだり、ある場所に行くことに対して積極的であることなどを表すカジュアルなフレーズです。

例）Gavinが友人のVictoriaを野球の試合に誘っています。
Gavin: Hey, we’re going to a baseball game this weekend. Do you want to come?
Victoria: I’ll be there with bells on! Thanks for inviting me!
Gavin: ねえ、今週末野球の試合観に行くんだけど。一緒に来る？
Victoria: 喜んで行くわ。誘ってくれてありがとうね。
