Nate: Hi, Serena! Good to see you again.
Serena: You too! How have you been? I heard you hit the big time.
Nate: I wouldn’t put it like that, but yeah, my business isn’t doing too badly!
Serena: Well, you’ve always been the salt of the earth.
Nate: No, no, that’s too much! Anyway, how about you? Do you still live here?
Serena: I do! Lately, Tim Bradshaw has been the talk of town. Do you remember him?
Nate: Yeah, I used to have History class with him. What about him?
Serena: You didn’t hear it from me, but apparently he got arrested.
Nate: Arrested? Timid Tim? That can’t be true. He was always so shy!
Serena: Blair told me all about it earlier. She’s still running her mouth all the time.
Nate: I guess some things never change.
Serena: You too! How have you been? I heard you hit the big time.

Serena: Blairが教えてくれたの。あの子は、今でも四六時中おしゃべりばかりしてるんだけどね。
Nate: いつになっても変わらないことってあるみたいだね。

大きな成功を収めていることを意味するカジュアルな表現です。
例）DebbieとKirstenが小説家である友人Kendraのことを話しています。

Debbie: Kendraの小説のこと聞いた？ベストセラーリストのトップよ。

誠実で親切、人から頼りにされるような人物に対して使う聖書に由来する表現です。
例）PamelaとCharlieが共通の友人Lilyのことを話しています。
Pamela: I’m so grateful for Lily’s help. I couldn’t have done it without her.
Charlie: Lily really is the salt of the earth. She always helps everyone.
Pamela: Lilyには本当に感謝しているわ、助けてくれて。彼女がいなかったら、成し遂げられなかったと思う。
Charlie: Lilyって、本当に親切で素晴らしい人ね。いつもみんなを助けてるわ。
Pamela: I’m so grateful for Lily’s help. I couldn’t have done it without her.

ある人や出来事などが多くの人の間で話題になっていることを言う際に使われる表現です。
例）LindaとDeniseが近く開催される美人コンテストの話をしています。
Linda: Did you hear about the big beauty contest?
Denise: Of course I heard about it! It’s the talk of the town.
Linda: 美人コンテストの話聞いた？
Denise: もちろん聞いたわ！その話題で持ちきりだもん。
Linda: Did you hear about the big beauty contest?
Denise: Of course I heard about it! It’s the talk of the town.
Linda: 美人コンテストの話聞いた？
Denise: もちろん聞いたわ！その話題で持ちきりだもん。
“run (one’s) mouth” しゃべり続ける
それほど重要ではない話題について必要以上に話し続けるようなおしゃべりな人物について使われる表現です。
例）Rickが自分のガールフレンドCarlaについて友人Brianに話しています。
Brian: I wish I could have gone to see the game with you.
Rick: So do I! I ended up taking Carla, and she was running her mouth the whole game. I missed the final touchdown.
Brian: お前と一緒に試合を観に行けたらよかったんだけどな。
Rick: 俺もそう思ってるんだ！結局Carlaを連れて行くことになったんだけど、あいつ試合中ずっとしゃべり続けてたよ。おかげで試合を決めるタッチダウンを見逃しちゃったんだ。
