Miranda: So, tell me a bit about yourself. Are you an early riser?
Samantha: Not really. Actually, I’m a bit of a night owl to be honest.
Miranda: That’s OK. I usually work nights at the hospital so it’s no big deal.
Samantha: Even if you are at home, I’m really quiet. I usually just read in bed for a couple of hours or do some work.
Miranda: What kind of books are you into? I’m an avid reader myself.
Samantha: I’m all about crime fiction. I just love suspense.
Miranda: Great! I’ve got a few books you can borrow actually. They’ll keep you on the edge of your seat.
Samantha: Thanks! Does this mean I can move in?
Miranda: I just have a couple more questions to ask but it’s looking good so far.
Samantha: Cool. Ask away!
Miranda: Do you smoke?
Samantha: Nope, never have.
Miranda: OK then, the room is yours if you want it!

キーフレーズ
“night owl” 夜更かしする人
夜寝るのが遅く、そして多くの場合、夜の方が活動的になる人について話す際に用いる表現です。
例）Dylanと Bobはスポーツクラブについて話しています。
Bob: You should try my gym. It’s open 24 hours a day.
Dylan: I’m a real night owl so that sounds perfect for me.
Bob: 僕が通っているスポーツクラブ行ってみたら。24時間やってるよ。
Dylan: 夜更かしだから、僕にちょうどいいかも。

“no big deal” 大したことじゃない
ある事柄や出来事が大した問題ではないことや大騒ぎするようなことではないことを言う表現です。
例）Maxは留守中、観葉植物に水をあげてもらうことについて友人のSamと話しています。
Max: Thanks so much for agreeing to water my plants for me. You’re a lifesaver!
Sam: It’s no big deal. I walk by your neighborhood every day anyway.
Max: ありがとう、私の留守中に観葉植物に水をあげるのを引き受けてくれて。命の恩人だわ。
Sam: そんな大げさなことじゃないわ。どっちみち毎日近所まで来るから。

“(be) all about (something)” ～に夢中である
ある事柄に強い関心があることや、それが特に好きであることを示すのに使われるくだけた表現です。
例）AngieとBeckyは春休みの旅行の行き先について話しています。
Angie: So, where do you want to go for Spring Break?
Becky: Let’s go to California. I’m all about the beach.
Angie: 春休みどこ行きたい？
Becky: カリフォルニア行こう。海が大好きなの、私。

“keep on the edge of (one’s) seat” ハラハラさせる
ストーリーなどが非常に面白く、次に何が起こるのだろうかと思っていることを表すフレーズです。
例）MiltonとRowan はテレビで放送されている、ある授賞式について話しています。
Milton: I hate it when they pause for too long just before announcing the winner.
Rowan: They do like to keep us on the edge of our seats.
Milton: 受賞者を発表する時、長すぎる間を置くが嫌なんだけど。
Rowan: 見てる私たちをハラハラドキドキさせたいのよ。
