Rachel: Thanks for inviting me, Thom.
Thom: No problem. Things have been so hectic at work lately that I’ve been dying to get away from it all. Plus, the mountains are beautiful this time of the year.
Rachel: Yeah, autumn foliage is the best.
Thom: I’m glad you don’t get carsick. The last person I brought driving with me nearly lost their lunch.
Rachel: Oh no! Actually, I love going on long car rides.
Thom: Oh really?
Rachel: Yeah, it reminds me of when I was a little girl. My dad would always take my brothers and me for long drives, especially in the mountains.
Thom: Well, I love driving. I go for a long drive at least once or twice a month.
Rachel: Really? Then I call shotgun.

Thom: 君は車酔いしないみたいでよかったよ。前回ドライブに一緒に行った人は吐く寸前までいってたからさ。
Rachel: やだぁ！私はむしろ好きよ、長時間車乗ってるの。
Thom: へえ、そうなの？
Rachel: そう、子供の頃のことを思い出して。父がよく私と弟たちをドライブに連れて行ってくれたの。特に山道をよくドライブしたわ。

キーフレーズ
“get away from it all” （都会を離れ）休暇をとる
都会の喧騒を離れ、静かな落ち着いた場所に行って、日常生活のすべてのことから開放されることを意味する表現です。
例）キャンプに行ってきたDaveがルームメートのSeamusと話しています。
Dave: Welcome back! Did you have a good time camping?
Seamus: Yeah, it was great to get away from it all! I didn’t even have cell phone reception.
Dave: お帰り。キャンプは楽しかった？
Seamus: 何もかも忘れて過ごせてよかったよ。携帯だって圏外だったし。

“(autumn/fall) foliage” （秋の）色づいた葉
秋の季節の色づいた葉を意味します。
例）妻のCelineと夫のJesseがある秋の朝目覚めると、庭の木々の葉がすべて散っていました。
Celine: Look, all the leaves fell overnight! I love autumn foliage.
Jesse: You’re only saying that because you’re not the one who has to rake it all up.
Celine: 見て、一晩で葉が全部散ってるわ。私、秋の色づいた葉が好きなの。
Jesse: 君は落ち葉をかき集めたりしなくていいからそんなことが言えるんだよ。

Jesse: You’re only saying that because you’re not the one who has to rake it all up.
Celine: 見て、一晩で葉が全部散ってるわ。私、秋の色づいた葉が好きなの。

“lose (one’s) lunch” 吐く
「吐く」ことを遠回しに言うための表現です。
例）AllyとClaireとElliotは三人で遊園地に来ています。
Ally: Hey, where’s Elliot?
Claire: Oh, he didn’t feel so good after that last rollercoaster. I think he’s in the bathroom losing his lunch.
Ally: あれ、Elliotは？
Claire: うん、なんかジェットコースターに乗ってから気分が悪いみたい。たぶんトイレで吐いてるんじゃないかな。
Ally: Hey, where’s Elliot?

“call shotgun” 助手席に座りたい
車で自分が助手席に座ると主張する際に使われる表現です。
例）DonとGloriaが車でファーストフード店に行かないかと Danielを誘っています。
Gloria: Hey, Daniel, do you want to come with me and Don to go get some lunch?
Daniel: Sure, but I call shotgun!
Gloria: ねえDaniel、私とDonと一緒にお昼食べ行かない？
Daniel: いいよ。でも、俺助手席ね。
